During CES 2020 it was announced by AMD that they were developing a strange graphics card. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, spoke about a Big Navi card that would come to compete with the high-end of NVIDIA. Supposedly this graphics card will compete in performance with the RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Ti. What we do not know is if support Ray Tracing.
New rumors regarding Big Navi indicate that AMD could announce this graphics card on March 5. This day there is no event, but it is when the Financial Analyst Day will take place. It seems very interesting that the company for the first time in years is launching a high-end graphics card.

The last attempt to launch a high-end graphics card was a real disaster. The Radeon VII was the last attempt in this field, being a disaster in performance, consumption and with a bad price. Radeon VII with a TDP of 350W performs less than a GTX 1080 Ti with a TDP of 260W. What's more, due to poor sales, AMD stopped manufacturing it only 5 months after its launch.
Returning to Big Navi, we know absolutely nothing about this GPU. For our part we prefer to be more cautious, it is not case that the same happens with the Radeon VII. We also want to highlight that AMD announced the RX Nano, a trimmed version of the Vega 56 that never made it to the market.
Be careful, because competing with the RTX 2080 Ti or the RTX 2080 Super, would be in resolution. AMD has already talked about a revolution in 4K gaming, but has not mentioned Ray Tracing at any time.
On the other hand, this year NVIDIA could launch the Ampere architecture in the second half of the year. So we would go from Pascal @ 12nm to Ampere @ 7nm. Improving lithography, rumor has it, could lead to a 50% performance improvement. But hey, it is a first step on the part of AMD and we can only assess it when it goes on the market.
