Biostar Announces M700 Drives, an M.2 Solution Based on the PCIe 3.0 Interface

Announced by Biostar the M700 drives that are based on the PCIe 3.0 interface and that can offer up to 2.000MB / s read.

The PCIe 4.0 standard was presented as a solid option that has gradually been deflated. Only AMD currently offers support for this interface and Intel does not seem interested in adding support. Except for the AMD graphics and us few M.2, there is nothing else thought for this type of interface. Biostar has just introduced the M700, an M.2 PCIe 3.0 drive.

The improvement in reading and writing of the PCIe 4.0 interface with respect to PCIe 3.0 it is remarkable. The burden that prevents PCIe 4.0 from obtaining greater potential is Intel, since if you do not bet on this interface, it will have little relevance. Although AMD continues to improve in market share, it is clear that Intel is the dominant player in the market.

Introduced the fastest M.2 PCIe 3.0 SSD to date

Being realistic for gaming, the speeds offered by an M.2 PCIe 3.0 unit are more than enough. Differences in load times are minimal, at least today. Note that this Biostar unit will possibly be the fastest we see in the market based on PCIe 3.0.

These M700 drives will arrive in two variants: the M700-256GB and the M700-512GB. This second 512GB unit will be the one that offers the highest speeds. It will reach 2.000MB / s in terms of reading and 1.600MB / s in terms of writing. On the other hand, the 256GB unit will offer 1.850MB / s of reading and up to 950MB / s of writing.

As a workaround to M.2 PCIe 4.0 drives it looks pretty cool. PCIe 4.0 drives reach 5.000MB / s read, which is amazing, but difficult to get the most out of.

Biostar has not given prices for the M700 units and their possible pricing. We will see if they launch them with a competitive price.
