# CES2019: Lisa Su puts her chest out because NVIDIA recoils and supports AMD FreeSync monitors
With NVIDIA giving up on AMD FreeSync, AMD CEO Lisa Su talks about the decision they made with FreeSync, very wise.
During the NVIDIA Keynote at CES 2019 there was talk about G-Sync technology on monitors. Specifically, the company has given its arm to twist and agrees to open to the VESA Adaptative Sync standard. This standard serves as the basis for AMD FreeSync. Theoretically any monitor with this open technology would be compatible with G-Sync. NVIDIA nevertheless said that only 12 out of 400 monitors were optimized and that they would release drivers for them. Now AMD welcomes NVIDIA's decision.

The difference between the two is the price. A G-Sync monitor can be up to $ 200 more expensive than a FreeSync. This is because for G-Sync you need a module that costs around 100 euros. Users did not want to pay more for their monitors and there has been no good sales of G-Sync monitors. In addition, manufacturers have given up on this system, because it is expensive and its sales are weak.
Lisa Su has said about it: “Look, we knew that FreeSync was the right answer. We know that FreeSync was the correct answer for a couple of years. The fact that others have decided that FreeSync is the correct answer, I think says that we made the right decision a few years ago.
We believe in the open standard. You know, we believe in open ecosystems. That has been a mantra. So we have no problem with our competitors about FreeSync. And we think that just means that, you know, it's better for the players and we did a good job. ”
Lisa Su has been asked about the variable quality of FreeSync displays, but she has pointed out that there is no such problem: “Well, if you really think about it, what problem are you trying to solve? I mean, the way we look at it, is that there are a lot of monitors and televisions out there, over 550, with very different price levels: entry-level, super-duper premium, and gaming monitors. And certificates; we make sure they work with FreeSync and you get the experience you pay for on monitors. I really don't see a problem. "
