China wants to fine Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron for negotiating and manipulating the price of RAM
No kidding, China could fine Samsung, Hynix and Micron more than $ 2.500 billion for agreeing on the price of chips for RAM memory.
This year will be one of the craziest in history in the technological field and so much has happened that it is difficult to summarize them. Last June we knew that China (yes, China) put a big fine on DRAM makers for monopoly. We did not know much more about it but now we know that it is likely that these manufacturers of DRAM memory will be proven guilty for the RAM units, who are accused of negotiating prices and maintaining prices artificially.
China accuses the big DRAM memory manufacturers of negotiating prices.
The Chinese State Administration for Market Regulation has conducted an investigation against the global monopoly of the RAM memory market. In an interview with Wu Zenghou, the Head of Administration told the Financial Times that they have found massive evidence against Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix, the big three RAM manufacturers and which dominate the majority of the global market.
We can find a precedent and it is that Samsung and SK Hynix were already sanctioned in 2005 by the United States Department of Justice and in 2010 by the European commission for setting prices. The charges now seem similar to these two precedents and the fine in this case could amount to more than 2.500 billion dollars (which we will end up paying all of course)
Analysts suggest that the investigation would have to do in part with the trade war between China and the United States. Be that as it may, it is true that the big three have manipulated and raised the price at will and it seems that it does not matter to the United States or the European Union, they are more interested in creating an intranet similar to that of China by wanting to restrict the user rights on the Internet, banning memes, taking photos at sporting events, etc.
