Apple announces M3 SoCs that will use 3nm lithography

A few weeks ago, a new Apple event was announced for Halloween. It was speculated that they would unveil the new MacBooks with the M3 SoC , an evolution of the M2, which was reportedly brought forward due to the M2's poor sales.

Finally, yes, the M3 SoC was announced and confirmed for Apple devices going forward. With this, they are the first devices in the world to use TSMC's long-awaited 3nm lithography, which promised to have a large number of advances in performance and efficiency.

TSMC's 3 nm debuts with MacBooks with the M3 SoC chip

Apple is turning things around to revive its slow Mac sales by unveiling three new M3 chips at its event yesterday. Although it was normal to present the basic model and months later advanced versions, this time they have announced the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max SoC models at the same time. The strategy is to convince users who are still using Intel-based Macs to make the jump, because they would see a huge performance boost with the upgrade.

The M3 is the first SoC to use TSMC's 3nm process. The base version of the M3 will be available in the 14-inch MacBook Pro, the first time such a model has been offered without a Pro or Max designation. There will be no new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the Touch Bar , which Apple has already discontinued and even removed from its website. It was always an addition that many people found not only useless but also annoying.

Its new GPU architecture aims to improve performance with Dynamic Caching. This system allocates memory in real time, increasing GPU utilization and performance. The M3's new GPU also includes hardware-accelerated ray tracing , along with hardware for Mesh Shading. This allows for faster rendering of more complex scenes. However, to the disappointment of enthusiasts, no compatible games have been announced, which is surprising considering that the iPhone 15 Pro announcement included the promise of native versions of PS4 games.

The Apple M3 chip's performance cores deliver 30% more power than the M1, and its efficiency cores are 50% more powerful. These were the data that were offered, which clearly goes to the most lagging users who still use MacBooks with Intel components.
