Cougar GX-F Aurum, new high-end power supplies

Any gaming system worth its salt must have a power supply to match. Not only to offer a stable and quality voltage to the system, but also to offer the best protections. Cougar Gaming has it clear and that is why it has announced the GX-F Aurum power supplies for gaming systems. These power supplies are characterized by having a 80Plus Gold certified.

The Cougar GX-F Aurum come with three powers, these being 550W, 650W and 750W, all three with 80Plus Gold certificate. This type of certificate indicates that 91% of the power is effective, only 9% being lost due to heat generation. Something very interesting about this power supply is that it is completely modular.

These new Cougar power supplies are characterized by having a 135W PWM fan. This fan makes use of 0dB technology, which allows the fan to be stopped, in this case, until the power supply load reaches 40%. To make them quiet in use, high stability, low friction bearings have been used. In addition, these bearings offer a useful life of more than 150.000 hours before failure.

But not only the fan is of high quality, so are the rest of the electronic components. Internally we find Japanese 105ºC capacitors, an extreme voltage regulation system of +/- 3%. It has been designed to operate at an optimum temperature of 50ºC. A Cougar Xformer transformer has been integrated to reduce air gap losses and thus improve efficiency and reliability. Of course, it has the OCP, OPP, OVP, UVP, SCP and OTP protections.

Cougar GX-F Aurum features a single 12A + 45.5V rail for the 550W model, a 54A rail for the 650W model and a 62A rail for the 750W model. All have two 8 + 9-pin EPS connectors and a system of 2/4/4 6 + 2-pin PCIe cables. They have a 7-year warranty and the price and date of release are unknown.
