Der8auer makes a fool of Intel: The extra pins of the LGA 1151v2 socket for the Z390 chipset do not contribute anything

Thanks to the professional overclocker Der8auer we know that the Intel LGA 1151v2 socket for the Z390 chipset has additional pins that are worthless.

The German overclocker Roman Hartung, better known as Der8auer, wanted to thoroughly test the Intel Z390 socket. To carry out this test, he has extracted the plugs of an Intel Z370 motherboard that was broken. You have then measured the amount of load that each of these pins can withstand. This unusual practice, which, logically, we do not recommend doing at home, has revealed very relevant data.

No need for the extra pins on the Intel Z390 socket

For this test, he has applied a constant voltage and has increased the amperage pin by pin. It has come to apply 5 amps, thus supporting loads of 1.01 amps without problems, which is usually normal. Later in a precision work he has covered 18 pins of a Core i9 9900K with duct tape to install it on a Z270 motherboard. This has caused an increase in load on the pins but without damaging the motherboard or socket.

He wanted to take this test further and has covered up to 69 pins of the Core i9 9900K. In this case the current has risen to 1.92 amps per pin. It has been noted that in this case there are no problems in any of the elements either. The tests have been for six hours, more than enough to see if there is any kind of problem.

Der8auer has made it clear that the LGA 1151v2 socket offers absolutely nothing and that it is an unnecessary socket. The problem here is Intel's new motherboard new processor policy. We have seen how users have modified the BIOS allowing the use of different new generation processors on Skylake boards. Intel has always had these things, now, the normal thing is to renew the system every 'x' years, not every month.
