Guerrilla developer says the PlayStation 3 processor was more powerful than current Intel processors
Intel's situation in the processor market is pretty bad. As stated by Bob Swan, CEO of the company, the seek to dominate the home processor market with a 90% share It has exploded in their faces. Dell has criticized the company and stressed that they will seek alternatives. The criticism is joined by Michiel van der LeeuW, Technical Director of Guerrilla Games.
Michiel has indicated in an interview with GameInformer that the Cell CPU of the PlayStation 3 is more powerful than any modern Intel processor. The resounding claim would indicate that it would even be superior to AMD Ryzen processors or the processors of current Sony and Microsoft consoles.
Guerrilla Developer Says PS3 CPU Was A Beast
Even today's desktop chips like the fastest Intel you can buy are not as powerful as the Cell CPU, but it is very difficult to unleash the potential of Cell. I think it was ahead of its time, because it was a bit more like how GPUs work today, but maybe it was not well balanced and too difficult to use. It slightly exceeded the power and usability, but it was definitely visionary. Michiel van der LeeuW in the GameInformer interview
The virtue of Cell, the processor of the PS3 lay in the parallelization. The problem is that the developers had to constantly modify the code to suit different kernels. In the end the architecture of Cell ended up being a headache for the creators.

Cell offered great power, but harnessing it was a real headache and very complicated. Being so complex to operate was often frustrating and time consuming. In the end the developers had to optimize the games specifically for this console.
Making use of it and really getting the performance of the PS3 was difficult, because you had all the SPUs and the power was not easy to unlock. You had to write a lot of special case code. You needed a fairly skilled team to do it.
