NVIDIA RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 heatsink is up to 30ºC cooler than their predecessors

The new NVIDIA RTX 3000 are characterized by offering a lot of power, a very compact PCB and a new type of heatsink. NVIDIA has given more data on the heatsink of the RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 Founders Edition. According to NVIDIA dual fan heatsink system is more efficient than the previous generation. It should be noted that the Ampere have a higher consumption.

We are really facing a quite atypical design. The front-facing fan blows hot air straight out of the GPU. While the second fan takes cold air that enters from the front, reducing the temperature. Also, it would be a support for the processor heatsink, which is pretty nifty.

NVIDIA RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 heatsink is highly efficient

This new heatsink has a high density aluminum fin body that is longer than the graphics card PCB. The aluminum fins are traversed by a total of four copper heatpipes that conduct heat to the fins. Above the GPU, memories and VRMs a considerable steam chamber block has been installed. A block that receives air directly from the fan and the heatpipes conduct the heat to the second fan.

Through this design, it has been possible to obtain a highly optimized air flow to be as efficient as possible. The second fan becomes important, which draws cold air from the front of the chassis to be more efficient. The front fan injects air directly onto the steam chamber and the air is expelled directly through the bracket. We basically have two high-performance cooling zones.

To give us an idea, the RTX 2080 FE and the RTX 3080 at an equal workload with a consumption of 320W, the difference is more than 20ºC. Not only is the new NVIDIA graphics cooler, the loudness level drops, making it 10dBA quieter.

The RTX 3090 FE is also compared with the TITAN RTX, both with a consumption of 350W. The new graphic is up to 30ºC cooler and the loudness level drops by more than 20dBA. It should be noted that the RTX 3090 FE is a very large mammoth graphic with a gigantic heatsink.
