The Intel Xeon W-3175X sneaks into the Coffee Lake Refresh and Skylake-X Refresh party

Between Intel's Coffee Lake Refresh and Skylake-X Refresh, the Xeon W-3175X processor has been found, which has no less than 28 cores.

Yesterday the Intel Coffee Lake Refresh and Skylake-X Refresh processors were presented, who were the protagonists of the event but a stellar guest who was not in the pools appeared. Intel took advantage of the event to present the Xeon W-3175X processor which will be the company's most special server processor and an attempt to conquer a very specific market segment with a real beast.

It appears to be a fairly similar processor to the one we saw at Computex, but with some different features. This new processor has a total of 28 cores and 56 processing threads that will operate at a base frequency of 3.1GHz and that can reach 4.3GHz without major problems.

The most interesting thing about this processor is that it will have a total of 68 PCIe 3.0 lanes of which 44 are specific to the processor and the other 24 are specific to the chipset. Additionally, this processor supports DDR4 DIMM Hexa Channel configurations supporting RAM configurations of up to 512GB working at 2666MHz compatible with ECC memory configurations. The TDP is 255W and it is within the Skylake-X architecture with LGA 3647 socket.

On the motherboard, a specific motherboard is required for these new processors and ASUS and Gigabyte have confirmed the launch of boards for this processor. ASUS will launch the RoG Dominus Extreme that will have two 24-pin ATX power connectors in addition to an ATX power connector configuration with a total of four 8-pin connectors and two 6-pin connectors for a voltage of 21V. The motherboard has 12 DDR4 DIMM slots supporting a maximum of 192GB of RAM.

Intel has ensured that the company will launch this processor next December of which the price is unknown and that it will possibly be revealed days before the launch of the processor.
