'The Legacy of 3dfx', a crowfounding book that tells the story of the mythical 3dfx Interactive

A crowfounding to remember the mythical 3dfx Interactive in the form of books, which review the entire history of the company until its closure.

At least an interesting crowfounding has started to publish several books that have been dubbed 'The Legacy of 3dfx'. Those who have been in this computer for many years will know that these books are about the mythical company 3dfx Interactivea, a large company that was dedicated to the manufacture of graphics chips and that made the leap to manufacture its own graphics cards, but that declared itself in bankruptcy on October 15, 2002 since its largest competitor, NVIDIA, acquired most of the company's assets, technologies, patents, and intellectual property.

They revive 3dfx Interactive, but in books that review the history of the company.

Martin Gamero is the one who has written these books and wants to raise 16.000 euros to publish the first of these books. If this figure is exceeded and it reaches 18.000 euros, the additional content 'Guide to retro computers' will be added, if it goes above 20.000 euros, the additional content History from 2001 to 2003 of 3dfx will be added, if it goes beyond the 22.000 euros a section that explains each of the technologies used and if it exceeds 26.000 the titles will arrive with a hard cover.

This book - which will be published in English and Spanish - is a multi-year investigation where extensive documentation is compiled based on hundreds of web pages, archive.org, information from magazines, forums, social media comments, LinkedIn data, interviews with collectors, and conversations with 3dfx fans. Everything has been adapted, cohesive and corrected to achieve the most complete result possible, in order to be able to leave an essential book on 3dfx: a company forgotten by many, but that marked a before and after in 3D.

In addition to all the ins and outs of 3dfx, you will discover the history of 3D on computers. For the first time in history, a book talks about the evolution of the graphics industry and compiles all the information to talk about that important time in the history of computing; all expressed in a pleasant way, but without skimping on details and data.

The first part is the history of 3D, from the 70s to the creation of 3dfx, its rise and fall, and its affair with SEGA, Microsoft and other companies.

The second part will be for the graphics released or that remained on the design table, accompanied by information on relevant companies related to 3dfx, comparisons between 3dfx graphics and with the competition. And from there we will go on to see the impact of 3dfx on arcades, games or computer applications that used Glide - the 3dfx API - and its use in professional environments.

The third part will be an interview-biography of Oscar Barea –one of the greatest collectors and experts in the world–, a perspective of fans and collectors on 3dfx today (which can be read here) and other points such as advertising, merchandising or hardware less known from 3dfx, like a controller or its "virtual reality" glasses.

If you want to contribute for only 10 euros you will receive a digital copy of the book in English or Spanish, for 26 a physical copy of the book in English or Spanish with a cover to protect it from dust. There is an SLI Edition of the book for 38 euros that includes an exclusive cover and a t-shirt, the Rampage Edition for € 70 that includes everything from the SLI pack plus an A2-size poster and a limited edition box. Shipments will begin from June 2019. If you want to contribute, you can do so from the following link.
