The price of RAM memory is falling, but in Spain this adjustment is coming more slowly

The price of RAM memories is being adjusted downwards, although it seems that this reduction is reaching the Spanish market very slowly.

The prices of RAM memory in the past year rose and peaked, but now it seems that they are falling. It has been DRAMeXchange who has said that the price has fallen significantly. According to these observers, the price of RAM has fallen so much, which is at very similar prices at the beginning of 2017. Now RAM is much cheaper than during 2018, the historically most expensive period.

RAM price drops… outside Europe

This price drop is due to the decrease in demand for DRAM chips in various segments. The first catalyst for the price reduction is Intel's problems meeting the demand for processors for desktops and notebooks. The second of the catalysts is the fall in smartphone sales. All this would be causing an excess of stock on the part of the manufacturers, forcing them to reduce the brutal profit margin they currently have.

The problem is that in Europe this adjustment is coming more slowly. G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x4GB @ 2666MHz memories once cost roughly $ 240, while now they have already dropped below $ 100. But in Europe and more specifically in Spain this does not happen. This kit is currently around 150 euros, but with taxes it should be around 100 euros. It seems that the brake is putting excess stock at the old price, depending on the stock update.

Curiously, this problem was experienced a few years ago with floods and fires in hard drive manufacturing plants. Those incidents raised the price for almost two years, causing the price to almost triple. In this case it has not been due to any problem of this type, it is due to a price agreement between the manufacturers, which are Samsung, Toshiba and SK Hynix.
