The price of gaming monitors falls thanks to the arrival of Chinese panel manufacturers
Significant drop in the price of gaming monitors, which only this quarter have fallen by 5% in price, thanks to the arrival of Chinese panel manufacturers.
Monitors are a fundamental part of a gaming equipment, but they have a problem, especially 4K and that is that they are very expensive. Despite everything, it seems that the price of these monitors is beginning to adjust downward. The reason is that new manufacturers of monitor panels based in China are entering. Currently Samsung Display, LG Display and AU Optronics had the oligopoly of the market. Now BOE, CPC-Panda LCD Technology and China Star Optoelectronics Technology have started to enter this market.
Chinese monitor panel companies drive prices down
It should be noted that the three Chinese manufacturers can offer very competitive prices thanks to the tax exemptions of the government of the region. The market for monitor panels has a large profit margin and can be played very well with the price. An increase in competition from which users greatly benefit.
A competition that causes gaming monitors to be falling in price like a beast. Above all, it is being felt in monitors that have a refresh rate of 144Hz. The price of these latest monitors in 2018 fell by 10% throughout the year and in this first quarter of 2019 alone they have already fallen by 5%. Chinese suppliers are attacking this market segment, which has higher profit margins. Prices are expected to continue to decline.
The sale of panels for gaming monitors increased by 2018% in 60 with more than 6.1 million sold. Samsung Display is the largest manufacturer, followed by AU Optronics and LEG Display. Samsung Display is forecast to sell 5.5 million gaming panels this year, followed by AU Optronics with 2.8 million. BOE would remain the third position with a million panels and the fourth would be LG Display with 700.000 units.
This high competition in the 144Hz segment could cause manufacturers to attack higher frequencies. It would not be uncommon to see the arrival of monitors with rates from 165Hz to 240Hz to obtain great benefits.
