AMD Ryzen Threadripper computer equipped with 256GB GDDR4
Capture of an AMD Ryzen Threadripper processor with 256GB DDR4, using an upgrade to the ASUS RoG Zenith Extreme motherboard.
The processors for the professional segment AMD Ryzen Threadripper are directly thought for the professional segment. These processors can support up to 256GB of DDR4 RAM through the 8 DIMMs it supports. Right now this is a problem, for the price of RAM today. TR4 socket motherboards only support 128GB of DDR4 RAM. From ComputerBase comes a screenshot that shows that Threadrippers support 256GB of RAM without major problems.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper with 256GB DDR4 RAM
An AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990X with 32 cores and 64 threads has been used. The ASUS RoG Zenith Extreme motherboard has been used for this system. 256GB @ 2666MHz has been arranged in 32GB modules with CL20-19-19-43 latency. It has not been specified, but the RAM modules could use chips made by Samsung, since it is the only company that would allow up to 32GB per module. The product name is 'J4BGUS2G8QHBC', which indicates that it is manufactured by SL Link, who uses Samsung chips.
To support such a large amount of RAM, the BIOS of the ASUS RoG Zenith Extreme has been updated to the latest version. We assume that more Threadripper motherboards with support for 256GB DDR4 will be arriving. The problem is the price of RAM, which is through the roof, although it could start to fall shortly.
