Possible Specifications for Intel Rocket Lake-S Processors

During the first quarter of 2021 the Intel Rocket Lake-S processors are expected to be released. These new processors continue to use the 14nm node, but will no longer use the Skylake architecture, going to use the Cypress Cove architecture. Well, now the specifications of all the Rocket Lake-S that the company would launch in a few weeks have been leaked.

It looks like the first quarter will be very busy at Intel, with a lot of launches. For Q1 2021 the launch of laptops based on Tiger Lake-U and Tiger Lake-H under the 10nm node and Rocket Lake-S under the 14nm node is expected.

Rocket Lake-S specs revealed

The most interesting thing about Rocket Lake-S processors is that they can be installed on motherboards with an Intel 400 Series chipset. Z490 chipset motherboards, for example, will support these processors and the PCI Express 4.0 interface.

Note that current motherboards with Intel 400 Series chipset and LGA1200 socket already support PCIe 4.0. The reason why Intel has not supported this connection interface is unknown. It seems that there would be some technical problems when trying to integrate this interface, which would have been solved in the Rocket Lake-S processors.

Note that Rocket Lake-S processors are based on the Cypress Cove architecture. An architecture that is an import of the Sunny Cove @ 10nm (Tiger Lake-U) architecture, but in this case manufactured in 14nm. It would be this import that implies that the new Intel processors lose cores.
