We explain what GeForce NOW is and how it works

NVIDIA officially announced GeForce NOW technology at CES 2017. It's coming very soon, and you can already sign up for early access on the NVIDIA website . But before that, let's understand what this technology is and how it works. Essentially, it's a cloud-based graphics computing solution that allows any user, regardless of their computer's hardware or whether it's up-to-date or if they have a dedicated gaming graphics card, to enjoy the latest games without having to upgrade their system.

What is it based on

This NVIDIA technology is based on a server system in the cloud, which will be responsible for loading the games, rendering them and sending them to our team. The servers would initially be based on NVIDIA GTX 1080 graphics cards or other Pascal graphics cards, which have not been determined. We will play on our team, while NVIDIA will do all the gross work.

What do we need

We really need rather little. This technology, according to NVIDIA, will be compatible with desktop computers with Windows or Apple. The company has specified that it will not ask for high requirements in principle and it will not be necessary for the equipment to be relatively new, we can use it with old equipment with hardware that would not support the games in question, because it will be NVIDIA who moves them.

An ideal example would be an Intel NUC with a XNUMXth generation processor or a laptop, which does not have a dedicated graphics card. These teams can move some games and always in low quality. An Apple Mac offers us great solutions for work, but they are not designed to play. Thanks to GeForce NOW, we can play any title, no matter how modern it may be, without major problems, since the computing will be in the cloud.

The only great requirement that we will need to be able to use this functionality is to have an internet connection of at least 25Mbps, something not very common in Spain, where most 10Mbps lines are offered, so many users, unfortunately, will be left out. This requirement is because the NVIDIA solution will send a large amount of data and a good connection is needed for it to work properly.

What platforms does it support

They do not want any user, as long as they meet the minimum requirement, stay out and the video game platforms Steam, Uplay, GOG, Batlle.net and Origin will be supported. Anyone who has one of these platforms can buy the titles they want, NVIDIA will render them and then send it to our screen, so we can play anything without having to invest money in updating our equipment.

How much will it cost

Information has appeared that it could cost between € 25-50 per month, some speak of € 20 for every 25 hours of use, the truth is that it is all just talking, since NVIDIA has not reported the price. The reality is that it is a solution that has taken almost three years to arrive and the price we assume, we will know when it is finally in final version or when it is finally released for all audiences.
