Gigabyte GP-P750GM and GP-P850GM power supplies tend to fail and explode
Newegg has been providing the Gigabyte GP-P750GM and GP-P850GM power supplies as part of a bundle to get an NVIDIA RTX 3080. Those power supplies fail, explode, and can destroy your PC components.
A few months ago, we wrote about the importance of choosing the right power supply , and this case has demonstrated that two power supplies that you can't choose whether to have or not can cause catastrophic failures. This research comes from the Gamer Nexus team, who have found that half of the power supplies for the Gigabyte GP-P750GM and GP-P850GM models they received exhibit these problems.
Beware of exploding power supplies
First of all, when faced with the question of How can so many power supplies reach users if they explode? The answer is that the Newegg portal sells the much desired NVIDA RTX 30 graphics cards in packages with other components as a way of selling it mainly to consumers. By putting components that cryptocurrency miners do not want, those who only seek to make money with the graphics card would not get as much profitability.
Many users have thought that if Gigabyte's GP-P750GM and GP-P850GM power supplies are included in the package, they are compatible. But the reality is that they can even destroy an RTX 3080, and they cannot return the power supply because it involves returning the graphics card.
As Gamers Nexus has verified, the power supplies are built with different materials in different units of the same model, although they do not believe that this is the only problem. They estimate that the problem may be due to the fact that there are components that do not have the correct temperature protection, which causes PCs with high-consumption components to end up with the power supply exploding.
