For weeks we've talked and speculated a lot about the more basic chipsets for Ryzen 3000 series. The AMD B550 and A520 chipsets haven't even been released yet, and we weren't even expecting them. But in this case, the specifications of the more modest chipsets for Ryzen processors seem to have been leaked. And as we always say, this is a leak, not information confirmed by AMD.
According to the leak, the B550 chipset will offer PCIe Gen4 support for 1 graphics card (x16) and for 1 M.2 NVMe (x4). While AMD's A520 chipset does not support PCIe 4.0 interface, so it is a simple version. But perhaps these chipsets arrive excessively late, more than 8 months after the Ryzen 3000 were launched.

The B550 chipset has been greatly simplified by supporting PCIe 4.0 x16 interface for graphics and PCIe 4.0 for just one M.2 drive. In addition, 10 PCIe 3.0 lanes are left in combination with 6 SATA ports (half as many SATA ports as on the X570 chipset). Overclocking support is maintained and USB 3.1 Gen2 support is offered, while the X470 only supported USB 3.1 Gen1.
For office automation and very simple gaming equipment we have the A520 chipset. It totally lacks support for overclocking and won't support PCIe 4.0 either. So if we connect a PCIe 4.0 graphics, it will work under PCIe 3.0. The number of USB ports is also reduced, leaving 9 ports and only 4 SATA ports.
The truth is that these chipsets arrive very late and we will see when motherboards with these chipsets are launched. Maybe they will arrive now because the Zen3 will be based on an 'improved' version of the 7nm and no new chipsets would be launched. Likewise, AMD plans to launch a special chipset (perhaps the Z590?) For the new Ryzen 4000 and little else, changing the strategy.
