Gaming: Sales of Desktops, Laptops and Monitors Increase by 16.5% According to IDC

Strong increase in sales of gaming desktops, laptops and monitors according to IDC, achieving an increase of 16.5% in Q2 2019.

Years ago, when netbooks (10-inch laptops) appeared, gaming desktops would die out. Then tablets would extinguish gaming equipment. Now it's the smartphone who will extinguish the gaming equipment market. The truth is that according to International Data Corporation (IDC), sales of desktops, laptops and monitors increased 16.5% in the second quarter of 2019.

According to IDC, the sale of gaming desktops, laptops and monitors has reached the figure of 10.4 million units. Some data that represents an increase of 16.5% compared to the second quarter of 2018. Something that would be given by the AMD Ryzen processors, the improvement in the offer of graphics cards and their price adjustment, have been the factors of this increase.

Sales of gaming desktops, laptops and monitors are up

The market that rises the most is that of gaming laptops. Specifically, an increase of 12.7% has risen compared to Q2 2018. According to IDC this increase is due to the implementation of NVIDIA RTX graphics in these laptops. Users seem very interested in Ray Tracing and the good price would help.

After three difficult quarters, desktop computers increased in sales, achieving an improvement of 3.3%. The key factor would be the AMD Ryzen processors, the slight downward adjustment of Intel processors and the price drop of the NVIDIA RTX.

Perhaps the most interesting data is in the gaming monitor market. There has been a slight increase in sales both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter. The models that increased the most in sales are curved monitors, increasing sales by 45%. It appears that users want larger panels without compromising space and visibility.

IDC assures that the sale of computers, laptops and gaming monitors increases 9.6% this year, reaching 42.8 million units. In addition IDC has corrected its forecast, increasing the data in the short term but reducing it in the long term. The sales prospect of gaming monitors has also increased.
