GDDR6: Rambus Announces First VRAM Chips Hitting 18Gbps

Announced by Rambus new GDDR6 @ 18Gbps memories, being the fastest on the market announced to date.

The new generation of nvidia graphics cards and AMD makes use of GDDR6 memory. These offer good performance and have great benefits. Rambus has just announced that it has achieved GDDR6 chips with a maximum performance of 18Gpbs. We are talking about four times faster than current DDR4 RAM. To achieve this he has used the controller of Northwest Logic, a recently acquired company.

Improving the capacity in terms of the frequency of work is essential for fields such as Artificial Intelligence or Deep Learning. It is also very useful for data centers, network management or autonomous vehicles. "The Rambus GDDR6 solution offers system designers more options when selecting the memory system that best meets their cost and bandwidth needs."

Rambus announces GDDR6 @ 18Gbps memory

Memory bandwidth represents a significant hurdle for designers working on high-performance applications such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning (ML).

With our 6Gbps GDDR18 memory subsystem, Rambus technology can unleash the power of cutting-edge designs with a proven, cost-effective memory architecture.

Hemant Dhulla, Vice President and General Manager of the Intellectual Property Hub at Rambus.

The new Rambus memories offer the following advantages over the competition:

  • Industry's fastest speed of up to 18Gbps, with a maximum bandwidth of up to 72GB / s
  • Complete and optimized solution based on a memory subsystem based on a complementary GDDR6 memory controller
  • PCB and package design support, offering customers high-speed designs for fast and reliable production
  • Helps ASIC designers to deliver maximum signal integrity and power to devices and systems
  • LabStation development environment that allows rapid introduction, characterization and debugging of the system
  • Supports high performance applications such as networks, Data Centers, ADAS, Machine Learning and AI
