Intel details 13th to 16th generations of Intel Core CPUs
During its investor meeting yesterday, Intel confirmed the release of four of its next-generation CPU platforms for clients and desktop computers. The 13th through 16th generations will be named Raptor Lake , Meteor Lake , Arrow Lake , and Lunar Lake.
We already knew the name of Raptior Lake, Meteor Lake and Arrow Lake, but now we know that the 16th will be called Lunar Lake. As expected, each generation is expected to include drivers and new support for emerging technologies, such as the most recent Alder Lake, which included support for DDR5 memory and support for PCIe Gen5.
Raptor, Meteor, Arrow and Lunar Lake will be the next generations of Intel Core
The hybrid design of performance and efficiency cores that debuted in Alder Lake is known to be maintained and expanded in future generations. Regarding Raptor Lake, Intel has confirmed that it will use the "Intel 7" process node, the same one used in Alder Lake, so it wouldn't be a very large generational leap . The focus will be on refining the hybrid performance architecture, and with more cores and threads, it will offer up to a double-digit performance increase (not IPC). There will be models with up to 24 cores and 32 threads, increasing the number of efficiency cores.
For the 14th generation, Meteor Lake , there will be an architectural change, based on Intel Core 4, to offer a 20% performance increase. These are expected early next year. The 15th generation, Arrow Lake, will be compatible with the Meteor Lake socket, and the efficiency performance cores will be improved, increasing their capacity to 32 to handle numerous small background tasks.
For Lunar Lake, although not expected until 2025, they will include the 18A process, which will offer a 19% efficiency improvement per watt over Arrow Lake's 20A. Nova Lake would follow, but they have not yet been able to say anything about that since it is quite far from leaving, in 20226.
