AMD's Navi 22 architecture has given birth to several of the brand's most powerful GPUs, highly demanded for mining. A few hours ago it was seen that an AMD partner has reused the equipment of a Navi 22 GPU for cryptocurrency mining.
The VideoCardz portal today shared photos of an alleged mining graphics card powered by MAD's Navi 22 architecture. Most of the graphics card specs are blurry, but the Navi 22 is visible, letting you know that the card was manufactured on TSMC's 7nm FinFET process node. Its manufacturing date is March 17, so the graphics card came out recently. The XFX logo is also visible in the photos that have been posted.
An AMD Big Navi 22 GPU retrofitted for mining
The AMD Navi 22 GPU converted to a mining CMP runs on a fixed base clock of 1.300 MHz because high clock speeds are not needed for Ethereum mining. It features 10GB of 6Gbps GDDR16 memory on a 160-bit memory interface, which is the same memory configuration as on the Radeon RX 6700M.
According to the screenshot, it was delivered at a hash rate of 39,06 MHps on Ethereum. It heated up to 92 degrees Celsius being a passively cooled graphics card. For comparison, the performance of the mining graphics card is on par with the AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT (about 39,6 MHps) and on the same level as the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR (42,9 MHps).
AMD has no problem with consumers using its RDNA 2 GPUs for mining, even though the Big Navi series of architectures were designed for games like this is the case. It does not appear to have been anything on a large scale, at best a somewhat small commission for a particular miner in China.
