Haas F1 Team to use an AMD EPYC processor-based server for next season

Thanks to its price and performance, next season the Haas F1 Team will use servers with AMD EPYC processors.

The Zen architecture has meant a major change in AMD's ownership that has saved the processor division (sacrificing the graphics division). The AMD Ryzen, the Threadripper and the EPYC have made a place for themselves in the market, so much so that in the case of the EPYC next season the Haas F1 Team that computes in the Formula 1 World Championship will use servers based on the EPYC processors.

Haas F1 Team will use servers based on AMD EPYC processors

This team will use second generation EPYC processors that are already in the mass construction phase and that will be introduced on the market next year for the server market, with the intention of cutting market share to Intel. Haas F1 will use servers in the 2019 season based on EPYC.

This need is due to the fact that the sense of pure driving is far away and now it is more technology and telemetry than driving and victories are usually due to strategies, parameter settings and race adjustments that are obtained through a large number of calculations. This means that an F1 team needs a lot of computing power to analyze all the data in the shortest possible time.

Some teams, such as Haas F1, are not the most advanced on the grid and have tighter budgets, which is why they look for solutions that are up to the task and that are affordable. So Haas F1 has signed an important agreement with AMD to acquire a Cray CS500 system that is based on AMD EPYC 7000 processors. The idea is that it helps them improve the car for the next season in addition to improving the number of simulations to be carried out. to be able to face any career set and who knows if to take advantage of it.
