HP Enterprise Announces New AMD EPYC ROME-Based Servers

Modular architecture AMD processors have enabled solutions to be developed for all segments. The market for Ryzen desktop processors are insured, Threadripper's market increases and EPYC's are on the wane. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) just announced that they are going to use EPYC ROME processors for their hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) solutions.

This will allow offering virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environments with a better price / performance ratio. Thus, it is possible to improve the performance of the systems and their capacity to host virtual machines compared to their predecessors. A great triumph for AMD, without a doubt, offering a much more powerful solution than the competition and with a lower price.

HPE uses EPYC ROME processors for its new systems

According to the HPE website, the SimpliVity 325 Gen 10 HCIs have been developed based on EPYC ROME processors. These systems double the number of virtual desktops, from 300 machines to 600 machines. These systems achieve a cost reduction of 50% for remote work.

Specifically, these SimpliVity 325 Gen 10 HCI offer EPYC 7002 processors from 16 cores to 64 cores. These new systems offer support for a maximum of 2048GB DDR4. Additionally they support up to 6 SSD units of 1.92TB capacity and 10GbE connectivity.

HPE SimpliVity aims to provide enterprises with an intelligent, software-defined HCI solution that makes VDI easy to deploy, manage, and scale. The new hyper-converged server is now available to order directly from the company or through its channel partners with devices expected to ship later this month.

The global COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented situation that is affecting all businesses, our communities and our way of life. As an edge-to-cloud platform-as-a-service company, HPE is here to help our customers bring together the right technology solutions and expertise to meet their most immediate challenges and unexpected demands.
