Intel Alder Lake @ 10nm will not arrive this year, will arrive in 2022

Intel's situation in the processor market is very bad because it still relies on 14nm lithography. In the middle of last week the rumor leaked from China that this year the company would launch 10nm-based desktop processors. The slide shows the Alder Lake processors based on the 10nm lithography for this year, when the Comet Lake-S have not yet come out.

This slide contradicts what we knew and that is that in 2021 the Rocket Lake-S @ 14nm would arrive and by 2020 the Alder Lake @ 10nm. As always, rumors and leaks, especially those coming from China, should be taken with a grain of salt. If it were true, Comet Lake-S would only be on the market for a few months, which makes no sense.

Intel's Alder Lake looks like it won't come this year

New information coming from China shows that Alder Lake based on the Golden Cove architecture would not arrive until 2022. So the information leaked last week would not have anything real. Thus, it returns to the planned roadmap and that we all already have in mind.

We will see this year the Comet Lake-S based on the Skylake architecture, being the last to be based on it. For next year the Rocket Lake-S based on the Willow Cove architecture would arrive. It is basically an adaptation of the 10nm cores under the 14nm lithography. Rocket Lake will implement Intel Xe graphics, DDR4 @ 2933 and the PCIe 4.0 interface.

We will have to wait until 2022 to see the Alder Lake based on the Golden Cove architecture and the 10nm lithograph. These processors will arrive with the LGA1700 socket and will be based on a big.LITTLE system, which combines high-power cores with low-power, high-efficiency processors.

Meteor Lake architecture based on 2023nm lithography is expected to arrive in 7. So the 10nm lithography for the desktop market will only be on the market for 1 year. The 10nm lithography is a resounding disaster and, as Bob Swan said, going for a density of x2.7 times compared to 14nm was a bit too ambitious.
