Intel's apparent agreement with Samsung to manufacture 14nm processors that would arrive in 2021
Information has emerged that suggests that Intel has an agreement with Samsung to manufacture 14nm processors that will hit the market in 2021.
A few months ago it was commented that in the third quarter of this year Intel's problems to satisfy demand would end. The company, to solve the problem, I request TMSC to manufacture some processors. Specifically, I outsource the production of the Pentium and Celeron, the most 'crappy' they manufacture. Still, the company is unable to keep up with demand.
To try to correct the problem, Intel would now go to ask Samsung to manufacture some processors. This would explain, in part, Raja Koduri's visit a few months ago to the headquarters of the South Korean company. Although it is not known which processors the South Korean company manufactured. Which, by the way, contrasts with the purria of processors that Intel has been launching for a few months.
Intel could outsource the production of some processors to Samsung
Sedialy, a South Korean outlet, points out that Intel would demand that Samsung produce some products in 14nm. Something that comes after having been negotiating for a long time, to lighten the burden on the American company. Samsung would make Rocket Lake processors, an unknown architecture. The weirdest thing about the deal is that these processors will arrive in miniPCs in 2021.
This information indicates that it would be in the fourth quarter of 2020, when the production of silicon starts at 14nm. Something that would indicate that Intel will continue to have problems in the present, in terms of production and lithography. The South Korean media also highlights that the demand is much higher than reported and that not even with outsourcing to TSMC, they are able to meet the demand.
A situation, at least, strange
Everything must be put in context and is that Intel has already presented the first processors based on 10nm. Although they are for laptops, the 10nm desktop processors should arrive by the end of the year. The 10nm lithography has experienced delays, but now it seems ready to go into production.
But it is very rare that by Q4 2020 it is agreed that Samsung will produce processors in 14nm. We must remember that NVIDIA next year could release Ampere in Samsung's 7nm EUV lithography. This lithograph is already ready or practically ready, so it doesn't make sense.
We are going to take this information, as a possibility, but there are things that do not add up. Possibly Koduri's visit has more to do with memories for his next graphics. If it is known that Samsung and Intel have been talking about memories for certain devices for a long time. Everything is very strange and bizarre.
