Intel launches Arc A580 graphics card for 1080p gaming
The 1080p gaming market is still far from becoming obsolete. A large number of gaming monitors are being released in that resolution, and 1440p hasn't even had its moment in the spotlight yet, with the focus already shifting heavily towards 4K. However, jumping to 4K from 1080p is expensive, which is why we see announcements like today's, featuring an Intel Arc A580 for high-quality gaming at 1080p.
This Intel Arc A580 was announced last year, but has not hit the market until today. It is based on the Alchemist ACM-G10 graphics processor with 3072 stream processors, and has 8 GB of memory via a 256-bit interface. While bin is trimmed from higher-performance counterparts, it retains all the features of the Alchemist architecture, such as hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding in AV1, H.264, and H.265 formats. This would make it attractive to video editors of all ranks.
The Intel Arc A580 finally arrives after a year of waiting
It sits below the Arc A770 and Arc A750 in terms of performance, but above the Arc A380. Intel itself positions it for 1080p gaming, as a preferred option over AMD's RX 6600 and NVIDIA's RTX 3050. The Intel Arc A580 offers higher compute performance and memory bandwidth.
But Intel's Arc A580 consumes more power than its rivals . Based on Intel's top-tier ACM-G10 GPU, it has a high power consumption, with a total graphics power of 185W. AMD's Radeon RX 6600 and NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3050 consume 132W and 130W, respectively, so users more concerned about energy efficiency might prefer the other options.
It has already been announced that custom model manufacturers such as ASRock, Gunnir and Sparkle will offer graphics cards based on the Intel Arc A580 GPU starting at US$179. It is a lower price than AMD's Radeon RX 6600 and Nvidia's GeForce RTX 3050, which continues NVIDIA's strategy of offering cheaper cards with a price according to their performance. But the Intel Arc A750, with higher performance; for about 200 US dollars maximum, so the difference is not that much. Unless $20 really matters, people will likely opt for the A750.
