Intel denies they ever tried to make an Arc A780
We know that Intel's top-of-the-line Arc graphics card is the A770 , which is intended to compete directly with the NVIDIA RTX 3060 in terms of price and performance. If the reports are true, it will be a good option for those looking to upgrade their graphics card without going for an enthusiast-level model. Intel plans to enter this market segment in the future, and rumors recently surfaced that they attempted to create one for the Arc Alchemist series.
Intel's Ryan Shrout has addressed these rumors to deny them. In response, Moore's Law is Dead claims that the Arc A780 is an unannounced card that would offer higher performance than the A770.
There will be no Intel Arc A780
Ryan Shrout is on Intel's graphics marketing team, so in theory he should be aware of details a leaker doesn't. Another Intel insider, Tuan Huynh of Intel Arc Tech, reinforced Shrout's revelation, stating that he had never heard any rumors about the alleged graphics card in the year and a half he's been on the team.
Moore's Law is Dead responded by stating that " Intel's denial is nothing more than an attempt at damage control due to the company's inability to produce a product that could compete against Nvidia's current RTX 3070 card ." Whether true or not, in practical terms, the top-of-the-line Intel Arc Alchemist card will be the A770, which has already delivered good results and becomes a strong competitor to the Nvidia RTX 3060.
But on the horizon loom NVIDIA's RTX 4000 series and AMD's RDNA 3, both unannounced. When they arrive later this year, Intel Arc will be relegated to a less competitive position compared to the RTX 4000 series, and won't be the only affordable option if AMD focuses more on making RDNA 3 competitively priced.
The flagship of Intel's Arc Alchemist series will be the A770. Intel has confirmed that the Arc A770 will launch with 32 Xe cores and 4.096 ALUs, on a 406 mm² die with 21.7 billion transistors manufactured using TSMC's N6 process. According to Intel's performance forecasts, the lower-end A750 is approximately 12% faster than Nvidia's RTX 3060 graphics card at a resolution of 2560 x 1440.
Since Nvidia's RTX 3070 offers 42% higher performance than the RTX 3060, the Intel A780 would have to offer 30% higher performance than the Arc A770. According to MLID, the Arc A780 would have a die as big as the RTX 3070, but the A770 already carries a die that's bigger than that in a denser process.
