Intel Comet Lake-S with the LGA1200 socket would arrive at the end of the year in 14nm or 10nm?
Slides are leaked about Intel's Comet Lake-S with LGA1200 socket that would be released late and could be based on the 10nm?
The situation in the Intel market is not the best after the arrival of the AMD Ryzen 3000. The company must make a move and it seems that they are doing it. Apparently they are already in production of the next Comet Lake-S processors, which are intended for desktop systems. These processors, according to rumors, would be based on 14nm, although it is not entirely clear.
Comet Lake-S is expected to be based on the Skylake architecture at 14nm, although there could be surprises. This is suggested by the new LGA1200 socket , which is reportedly designed for 10nm processors. No slides show the lithography of these processors. These new processors will come with up to 10 cores and 20 threads with a TDP of 125W.
Intel could launch Comet Lake-S processors by the end of the year
These new processors will hit the market later this year and early 2020. In addition to the new socket, a new chipset will be installed, the Intel 400 Series. This chipset will offer up to 46 PCIe 3.0 lanes, up to 10 USB 3.1 Gen2 @ 10Gbps ports and up to 6 SATA III. Additionally it will have support for WiFi 6 + Bluetooth 5.0, Thunderbolt 3 and improved overclocking and support for memories.
The roadmap places its launch very late in Q4 2019. It is possible that by then the higher-end ones will arrive and for Q1 2020 the mid-range and low-end ones will be introduced. This point is not very clear, but it is possible that in the coming weeks we will have more information.
We must bear in mind that Intel has already started to market processors for 10nm laptops and tablets. This is the first step, as the laptop market is very important to the company. Maybe it will 'surprise' us and arrive in 10nm.
