Intel confirms the Z390 chipset for the gaming segment and the X399 chipset for the HEDT segment

The arrival of the Z390 chipset for new eight-core processors is confirmed by Intel and the X399 chipset will also arrive, designed for the new HEDT processors that the company will launch.

We have been commenting for weeks that although there is no confirmation from Intel, a new chipset will arrive, the Intel Z390 and eight-core processors and sixteen threads would arrive. Intel has confirmed this information, by means of a table and the name of this new family, which would be Cannon Point-H (CNP-H). This for the gaming range, but also the Cannon Lake, Coffee Lake and Cannon Point-H processors destined for the HEDT or professional segment and that will arrive, with a new chipset, the Intel X399.

Regarding the Z390 chipset, we would be talking about high-end motherboards and everything indicates that they will be exclusive for Cannon Point-H processors with eight cores and sixteen threads. So it is possible that we will see for the first time in history the Core i9 for the gaming segment, although we are not going to anticipate too much. It is possible that these processors arrive or at least be presented, during Computex 2018, which takes place in early June. So days before this event we should start to see the first benchmarks of these processors.

We also have the Intel X399 chipset, which will be exclusive for HEDT users, or in other words, advanced systems for photo and video editing, streaming with gaming, among other tasks with a high load for the processor. They will be new very powerful processors and we may not see an increase in cores, since it is not necessary, yes, we will see improvement in performance compared to the current Coffee Lake-X and Kaby Lake-X. Typically, these new processors offer support for Quad Channel, Intel VROC, and multiple graphics card configurations, among other advanced options.
