Intel Core i9-10990XE, the 22-core beast with a 380W TDP
During CES 2020, AMD officially introduced the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X 64-core, 42-thread processor for workstations. Surprisingly Intel is not talking about desktop processors or processors for Workstation. A few days after the event, the Core i9-10990XE processor, a higher processor than the Core i9-10980XE, has leaked. This processor is characterized by having up to 22 cores and 44 threads.
Currently Intel and AMD are competing head-to-head for the market for desktop processors, workstations and data centers. We are talking about three large markets that move hundreds of millions of dollars annually and none wants to lose strength in these segments. Who better this is AMD, which with its Chiplet is rapidly increasing market share

As we said, the new Intel processor will arrive with 22 cores and 44 threads in a monolithic DIE. Monolithic DIEs are starting to be a major manufacturing problem for Intel. It seems that the brutal delay of 10nm would be in the manufacture of a large DIE, which would be very complicated at this scale. Even the company has said that 50% of R + D + i is spent on integrating the different elements of the DIE.
This filtered Core i9-10990XE processor will work at a base frequency of 4.0GHz and in Boost mode it will reach 5.0GHz. It should be noted that the Boost frequency refers only to one of the cores, not even by far to all the cores. It will be accompanied by 1MB of L2 cache per core and 30.25MB of shared L3 cache
Not only has it been seen in CPU-Z, we have also seen it in Cinebench R20. This 9-core Core i10990-22XE processor scores 14.005 points, quite similar to the 3960-core Threadripper 24X.
The big problem with this Core i9-10990XE processor is the TDP. As we can see the TDP is 380W, much higher than the 280W TDP of the Threadripper 3960X. This implies that the consumption of the Intel processor is much higher and cooling it will be a real problem. On the price we have no data, but it is foreseeable that it will be quite expensive.
