Filtered the name of the two sockets for the Xeon Scalable @ 10nm
The two new sockets for Intel Xeon Scalable processors are filtered, which will be manufactured under the Ice Lake architecture and 10nm lithography.
Currently AMD is dominating the gaming processor market with the Ryzen 3000 and the server and data center market with the EPYC Rome. Zen2 @ 7nm based solutions are causing many problems for Intel, which could end sooner than expected. TE Connectivity, which develops different types of connectivity solutions, has revealed that Intel has developed two sockets for the next generation of Xeon Scalable.
Intel Xeon Scalable processors have been specially developed for dynamic systems. Specifically, they have been created for hybrid cloud infrastructures, data analytics, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, HPC and network transformation. They have a different design than conventional Xeons, specially optimized for high-speed computing.
Intel prepares two sockets for the next generation of Xeon Scalable
According to TE Connectivity they have created the LGA4189-4 and LGA4189-5 sockets. These two sockets must support processors with up to 56 cores and 112 threads. The next processors will be based on the Ice Lake architecture based on 10nm lithography.
No more features of these sockets have been revealed, which is a shame. It is speculated that the last number, 4 and 5, would have to do with the capacity to supply power or the type of processors they support. It may be that the LGA4189-4 is intended for low-power, low-core processors. The LGA4189-5 would already be more thought for the top of the range.
These new sockets will have full support for the PCI-Express Gen4 standard, which is really cool. These sockets have also been revealed to support Octa-Channel for DDR4.
These processors will not really come to compete directly with the EPYC Rome, since they play in different leagues. These Intel processors are more intended for AI, autonomous driving and systems that need real-time calculations. AMD processors are more intended for servers, data centers and other advanced computing systems.
