Intel Makes New Coffee Lake Processors Official for Laptops

Officially introduced the new Intel Whiskey Lake processors for discrete and long-lasting laptops.

Intel Whiskey Lake processors will finally hit the market, but these will be destined for portable computers and compact, low-power desktops. These eighth-generation processors will belong to the U Series and Y Series, being simple solutions designed to offer great connectivity and a fairly low consumption. The chipset has been enhanced with Gigabit WiFi 802.11ac connectivity. The improvements come down to this and a slight improvement in consumption.

Intel officially launches Whiskey Lake for laptops

These new processors should have patches that address the Specter and Meltdown vulnerabilities. At the architectural level, it is the same as the previous generation and no noticeable improvements are expected with respect to autonomy, maintaining the maximum of up to 16 hours in certain laptop models, especially in those with a maximum brightness of 200 nits.

Who offers this long autonomy is the Intel Core m3-8100Y processor, which has two cores and four threads and works at a frequency of 1.1GHz and can reach 3.4GHz in Boost mode and has a controller for DDR3 @ 1866MHz memory. It is clear that it is not a big deal but we are talking about a very simple processor for entry-level laptops.

The maximum representative of this family of processors will be the Core i7 8565U that will work at a base frequency of 1.8GHz and can reach 4.6GHz in Boost mode and is characterized by DDR4 @ 2400MHz memory support. Very simple processors with very low cost and consumption designed for manufacturers to develop compact and lightweight solutions. We are not going to ask these processors to do certain heavy tasks, because not by chance.
