Benchmark of the Gen11 iGPU of the new Intel Ice Lake-U, shows how there is a significant jump depending on the processor TDP setting.

This week at Computex 2019, Intel unveiled its Ice Lake-U processors , the first built on a 10nm process. These new laptop processors already feature Gen11 integrated graphics (iGPUs). This represents a significant leap forward from Gen9, as they are based on the company's upcoming dedicated gaming graphics cards. These new processors will be available with varying TDPs, resulting in significant performance differences. There will be a 15W TDP to maximize battery life and a 25W TDP that prioritizes power over battery performance.

Gen11 iGPU performance difference based on Ice Lake-U TDP

The folks at wccftech got their hands on two identical Ice Lake-U processors, but with different TDPs. Logically, to control the TDP, the clock speeds are reduced. They compared two unidentified Ice Lake-U processors, one with a 15W TDP and the other with a 25W TDP. The difference in CS:GO performance was quite significant.

As explained, they have tested both processors in CS: GO with a 1080p resolution and low graphics. The panel synchronization is not activated, a fact that we must take into account. The 15W Ice Lake-U gives an average FPS rate of 67-69FPS, while the 25W Ice Lake-U offers a 97-100FPS rate. We see that there is an FPS difference of more than 43%, which is a lot of difference.

They wanted to emphasize that this is the rate with the static player and that at stake this can vary significantly at stake. They have also stressed that the temperature must be taken into account, which was unknown. It is still a good result, considering that it is an Intel iGPU, which has never been a big deal.

The Ice Lake-U, it should be noted, allows adaptive screen synchronization, so low refresh rates should look smoother than on a conventional monitor. This could allow this iGPU to offer a good result in games, something that has not happened in the past, as we have seen.
