Intel to invest $1.000 billion to support semiconductor foundries

To alleviate the current shortage of semiconductors that is affecting the technology industry so much, one of the most long-term solutions is to create more foundries so that if demand drops and then rises again, you will be ready to increase production. It would also make many products lower shipping cost as not all of them would ship from China or Taiwan. Intel has seen this and together with the foundries that it is going to do in the United States and in Europe, they are going to invest 1.000 million dollars in the foundry industry in general.

intel plans invest in disruptive technologies for the foundry ecosystem. The priority would be similar to that of the recent European law, since it is about accelerating the design, manufacturing and marketing time of products.

It will invest in the foundries themselves

This plan is formed through a partnership between Intel Capital and Intel Foundry Services. IFS has been created by the company as part of its ongoing strategy to meet global demand for electronic products. Part of the goal is work with an open chip platform and use modular products for multiple architectures, such as x86, Arm and RISC-V.

RISC-V is a free and open instruction set architecture run by the non-profit organization RISC-V International. They work with Google, Huawei, Western Digital and Intel, and since they are open, no patents need to be licensed for their use, which would make their manufacture much more accessible.

Depending on the level of affiliation Intel has on the platform, it could give you a seat on the board of directors. Since RISC-V is based on the spirit of collaboration in processor innovation, this could mean big changes for the future development of semiconductors around the world.
