Intel 'KF', Coffee Lake Refresh processors without graphics to increase throughput and overclocking
New rumors around the Intel 'KF' processors of the Coffee Lake Refresh family suggest that they will be processors without integrated graphics.
We still do not have specific data on the 9th generation Intel Coffee Lake Refresh that will arrive with the name 'KF'. We know this data thanks to a filtered slide of a Gigabyte presentation during the past Computex and that comes out right now. There is no official confirmation although there are new rumors about the Core i9900 7KF, Core i9700 5KF, Core i9600 3KF and Core i9350 XNUMXFK.
What are Intel Coffee Lake Refresh processors with the designation 'KF'?
Right now no one knows for sure what this new branch of processors means within the Coffee Lake Refresh family, but it aims to be a variant of the 'K' processors, so they will have the multiplier unlocked and will have overclocking capacity. The 'F' according to rumors is that the company's discrete integrated graphics, known as iGPUs, will be disabled or there will be no iGPU within the processor package.
Intel is not the first time that it will launch processors that have graphics disabled. The main idea of this movement is to increase the amount of silicon production per wafer, since the Core i9 9900K without iGPU at the silicon level would be 15% smaller, while in the case of the Core i7 9700K it would be 25% smaller. This reduction in dimensions at the silicon level would allow to produce more processors.
The iGPU also affects the TDP and not having it active or not having it directly means that the TDP is reduced and therefore the temperature increases, thus the overclocking capacity. These are all rumors and speculation, possibly ending up at Intel's Keynote held at CES 2019 in Las Vegas.
