Intel launches the Xeon Platinum 8284 without saying anything, a 28-core processor
At the jibiri, Intel has launched the Intel Xeon Platinum 8284 processor, with 28 cores and will arrive at a Boost frequency of 4.0GHz.
The processor market has taken an important turn with the arrival of the AMD Ryzen 3000 processors. Intel, for the domestic market, has not yet moved a tab. Meanwhile and quietly, the company has released a new processor from the Cascade Lake-SP family. Specifically, the Xeon Platinum 8284 has been launched on the market, logically designed for the professional segment.
Xeon Platinum 8284 is a processor that has 28 cores and 56 processing threads. It works at a base frequency of 3.0GHz and reaches 4.0GHz in Boost mode. It has a cache of 38.5MB and will have a TDP of 240W. Logically, this processor is designed for the server and data center market.
Intel, unannounced, launches Xeon Platinum 8284 processor
A processor that is also characterized by having Hexa-Channel support for RAM memory. It should be noted that this processor will support 1.5TB @ 2 933MHz. It also has this processor with a total of 48 PCIe 3.0 lanes.
If we compare it with an AMD EPYC Rome, logically this Intel processor does not make the slightest sense. Rome will arrive based on Zen2 @ 7nm and will integrate up to 64 cores and 128 PCIe 4.0 lanes. Also, AMD's server processors are much cheaper. It is also true that Intel needed to get something out, even if it was a chestnut.
The price of this processor is, arguably, a significant increase. The Xeon Platinum 8284 is priced at $15,460. This is over $5,000 more than the Xeon Platinum 8280, which had a base frequency of 2.7GHz and a boost frequency of 4.0GHz. This means the new processor only improves the base frequency by a mere 300MHz.
Logically Intel, if someone manages to hitch this processor, they can clap their hands. It looks like it will be the last 14nm processor the company will launch.
