Intel: Gen11 graphics for Ice Lake @ 10nm will support Interger Scaling instructions or integer scaling
Intel announced that Gen11 graphics for Ice Lake @ 10nm processors will have Integer Scaling support.
The graphic quality in recent years seems to have stagnated a bit, until the arrival of RayTracing. But it is not the only technology that has begun to be implemented in the gaming market. NVIDIA a few weeks ago already announced support for integer scaling, which is joined by Intel. Integer Scaling or integer scaling offers a slight graphical improvement.
This implementation by Intel is only compatible with Gen11 integrated graphics. Therefore, only the new Ice Lake processors at 10nm will support this type of instruction set. Those who purchase an Intel laptop with a 10nm processor will be the first to benefit.
Integer Scaling support added to Intel Gen11 graphics
The integer scaling technology is especially useful for those who love console emulators or Pixel Art. When old games are emulated on high resolution screens, a lot of image quality is lost. Using this technology, the number of pixels on the screen can be doubled, tripled and even quadrupled without losing sharpness.
In addition, this technology reduces the amount of artifacts, which are usually quite common. The technology is based on the most advanced scaling in its segment. It will allow us to once again enjoy classic games, great gems of the video game industry.
Intel currently only supports it in Gen11, so it will not be something extended to all users. NVIDIA graphics offer this technology in the Turing architecture that brings the GTX 16 Series and RTX Series to life. AMD at the moment has not yet positioned itself on this and is far behind in this fight. We'll see if the company joins in soon and adds integer scaling support to its charts.
