New drivers reveal two possible Intel iGPUs already at 10nm
References to two new Intel graphics appear, presumably integrated into the company's upcoming 10nm processors.
The graphics card market is one of the most succulent and Intel knows that well. The company, after several unsuccessful attempts, will make the leap to the gaming market with its own graphics. For this he has signed Raja Koduri, whoever was responsible for the AMD Radeon division. Intel's idea would be to unify all graphics cards under the new Xe brand.
Intel plans to take its iGPUs to a new level and launch solutions that compete directly with AMD and NVIDIA. If anyone can do it, it is the expert processor company. The first dedicated graphics cards are slated to arrive in 2020 and will be in 10nm lithography. A lithograph that will arrive on desktop processors later this year.
Code names of upcoming Intel graphics are revealed
Within the latest Intel graphics drivers the references DG1 and DG2 have appeared. The name 'DG' refers to 'Discret Graphics' or 'discrete graphics'. Furthermore, the DG1 and DG2 have the LP and HP versions, respectively. Possibly LP refers to simple graphics for laptops and HP refers to more powerful graphics for desktop.
The numbers accompanying the term 'DG' are not known to indicate, but could be subdivisions within Intel iGPUs. It is speculated that they could refer to the number of execution units, although it is unknown.
Some unknowns that should be revealed in the coming months. Possibly the DG1 have an LP and HP version and the DG2 also have an LP and HP version. Everything will depend on the end use of the processor in question.
These new 10nm iGPUs will begin to be integrated into the company's next 10nm processors. If everything goes according to plan, starting in October we should see that Intel has 10nm for the domestic segment.
