Now the company has announced Optane DC DIMMs for the server and data center market. They are the first drives to use the DIMM ports and will have persistent memory.

During Data-Centric Innovation Day, the company announced Optane DC DIMMs that have persistent memory. As the name suggests, these memory units have the capacity to store information. This is very interesting, because in the event of an error that causes a restart, it has the previous data and allows you to return to the previous point of the problem. In addition, it would allow the system to start up more quickly. Some units that have been created under the new slogan for this type of unit: "Moving, Storing and Processing Data"
How could it be otherwise these new Optane DC units make use of 3D XPoint memories. They are a new type of non-volatile memory, or in other words, when you lose power, you do not lose stored data at any time. So we have a very interesting hybrid between RAM modules and storage units, which have a lot of uses.
These new Optane drives can be installed in the DDR4 slots of the next generation of servers. Regarding the capacities, these units will arrive with capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB. These modules implement a driver similar to that of SSDs with a specific driver designed by Intel. Hopefully they will also reach the consumer market soon and we remove SSDs, the biggest bottleneck of a PC today.
