Intel: Introduced the new Intel Xeon W-2000 with a significant price cut

Announced the new Intel Xeon W-2000 processors, the company's new processors destined for the Workstation market.

Last Friday we discussed Intel's Cascade Lake processors, which will be released as Core-X. The Intel Core 10000 Series processors are designed for the workstation segment and are the predecessors to the Xeon processors. Now, the company has just announced the Xeon W-2200 processors, an update to the Xeon W-2100 processors. These processors offer improved clock speeds, memory support, and competitive pricing.

The Xeon W are a solution developed by Intel expressly for Workstations. The vision of the Workstation market is quite different from that of AMD. For Intel they are a complete solution for users who want full uptime, maximum performance and full support for a wide range of applications and hardware integrations.

Intel Announces Xeon W-2200 Processors

Xeon W is based on two lines of processors. The W-2000 family shares the current Core X socket with same-sized processors and memory channels with ECC support and features like vPro, VROC, and RAS. On the other hand are the W-3000 which is based on the new LGA3647 socket. These processors offer more PCIe lanes, more memory support, and ECC, vPro, and RAS capabilities. They will be more expensive and will come with more cores.

On prices, Intel has cut the price in half compared to the previous generation of processors. A movement given by the great quality / price ratio offered by AMD processors. The frequencies and the TDP are equivalent to the Core X. Intel ensures that the Turbo Boost Max 3.0 will now be available in four cores, instead of two.

Note that these processors will have 48 PCIe lines that support x16 / x16 / x16 configurations, but for this, motherboards with a C422 chipset will be needed. Most of these newer processors support DDR4-2933MHz on four DIMM channels. These processors support RDIMMs and LRDIMMs with a maximum of 1TB per socket and modules up to 128GB.
