The first benchmark of the Lakefield processor based on ARM's big.LITTLE architecture is revealed

First benchmark of the Intel Lakefield processor, which is based on ARM's big.LITTLE design and is based on Foveros' own technology.

The benchmark software par excellence is 3DMark, which in its different versions is the most widely used in the industry. Through this software we have known the first benchmark of an Intel Lakefield processor. It is the first 3D Foveros system processor, as well as being a hybrid x86 processor.

Foveros for those who do not know, is a technology that allows you to stack different stacks of chips, one on top of the other. It is a technique that extrapolates the 3D NAND system to processors. This system allows us to have the processor, graphics, controller, connectivity, etc. by levels. Bringing it all together in one package dramatically reduces latencies and power consumption.

The first benchmark of an Intel Lakefield processor appears

There's no official name for this Lakefield processor. However, 3DMark reveals that this Intel processor has five cores. It's based on the big.LITTLE architecture developed by ARM . This architecture combines high-performance cores with more efficient cores, aiming for a balance.

Low consumption cores usually work, but in case extra power is required, the higher power cores enter. This allows to reduce consumption and temperature. To give us an idea, if we browse a web, only the simple cores will work. If we are going to play a game, all the cores are already activated.

Lakefield makes use of a high-performance Sunny Cove core along with four Atom Tremont cores. The silicon communication layer is based on the 22nm manufacturing process, while the cores will be manufactured in 10nm.

We have on the one hand the Atom Tremont cores that reach 2.5GHz. The Sunny Cove core has a base frequency of 3.1GHz and in Boost mode it reaches 3.16GHz. Perhaps the most relevant is that this processor supports LPDDR4X @ 4266MHz.

On the result of the Lakefield processor, this has obtained a result of 5200 points. It has more or less the same performance as the Intel Pentium Gold G5400 processor. These processors would be announced at the end of the year.
