Intel to supply 100% of 5G modem chips for Apple iPhones
Next year Apple could end its bad relationship with Qualcomm, due to Intel supplying all of the 5G-type modem chips next year, eliminating dependence on Qualcomm.
Smartphones will soon make the leap to 5G connectivity, which offers greater coverage and download speeds than 4G. The company that has a wide advantage over the competition in terms of chips designed for 5G modems in smartphones is Intel. It is for this reason that Apple expects Intel to supply all of the modems for the new iPhones that will arrive in 2019. Currently Cupertino receives 70% of the modems from Intel and the remaining 30% from Qualcomm.
Apple currently does not have a good relationship with Qualcomm, since over the years and after several very tough legal disputes, relations are very tense, especially after the legal dispute over the patent licensing fees, paid by Qualcomm for Cupertino company suppliers. Apple would be working towards eliminating the elimination of Qualcomm modems from the terminals from the iPhone.

Apple seems to be waiting to see how Intel manages to complete the demand and reserves the load of the Qualcomm modems to complete up to 30%, if the quota is not achieved.
There is a possibility that Intel will produce enough chips to satisfy more than 70% of the market share. It should be noted that the company has production problems for these chips, since slightly more than half of these are functional. The company is confident that it will be able to clean up the errors and thus increase the production rate between June and July.
