Intel and Synopsys demonstrate Xeon Sapphire Rapids interoperability under PCIe 5.0
One of the big bets for the future generation of processors is the PCIe 5.0 connection interface. This new interface through CXL allows to create a physical interconnection between systems and share the computing capacity. Intel and Synopsys have demonstrated the interoperability of Xeon Scalable Sapphire Rapids processors. Synopsys already showed last years its solutions for CXL technology under PCIe 5.0.
Although there is currently great interest in PCIe 4.0, the reality is that the jump from PCIe 3.0 is not very remarkable. You only see the difference in the speeds of the M.2 NVMe drives and little else. PCIe 5.0 through the CXL physical interface will allow you to generate ultra-high performance computing clusters.

The demonstration carried out by both companies wants to show the interoperability capacity of the Xeon Scalable Sapphire Rapids. Synopsys DesignWare under PCIe 5.0 demonstrates that CPU interconnection using this interface is successful. Thus, solutions based on Synopsys technologies, such as SSD controllers, network adapters and various accelerators, work perfectly with Intel's Xeon Scalabe under PCIe 5.0.
Achieving successful interoperability between Synopsys DesignWare processors for PCIe 5.0 and Intel Xeon Scalable, validates that everything works as intended with Intel's PCIe 5.0 products, accelerating the path to success of the first silicon with less risk.
John Koeter, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Strategy for IP at Synopsys.
Already last year Synopsys showed CXL solutions on PCIe 5.0 and CCIX using silicon implementations with its CLX or CCIX drivers and the physical interface, as well as prototype kits. It also demonstrated PCIe 5.0 interoperability between its test chip and Intel's test chip. This is for designers to verify that everything works and begin to demand licenses. Synopsys DesignWare has already been licensed over a hundred times. Synopsys currently offers its solutions under FinFET manufacturing processes ranging from 16nm to 5nm.
