Intel Z390, a chipset to support eight-core Coffee Lake Refresh and little else
Few and insufficient improvements for the Intel Z390 chipset, which will be used to support the eight-core Coffee Lake Refresh processors.
We have spent many months thinking about the new eight-core Intel processors and more specifically, the motherboards developed for these new processors, which will carry the Intel Z390 chipset. We have seen motherboards for these processors and even a manual for a motherboard of this chipset, but we have not seen this chipset yet. This chipset, on a technical level, implements very few improvements over the Z370 chipset. The improvements come down to the Bluetooth community and support for six USB 3,1 Gen2 ports.
Few improvements to Intel's Z390 chipset over Coffee Lake's Z370 chipset.
This chipset was simply developed to support the new eight-core processors, and to avoid a forced motherboard change, slight improvements have been implemented. The motherboards are expected to arrive during this third quarter, which is when the Coffee Lake Refresh will be launched, in theory, with processors of up to eight cores. Possibly, all processors will be compatible with the Z370 chipset, but the eight-core processors will only be compatible with the Z390 and we already have the quilombo mounted.
It is speculating that some manufacturers, such as ASRock, would make a special BIOS that will allow the Z370 chipset to support these eight-core Coffee Lake Refresh, without having to buy a new motherboard. Something very interesting.
We must also highlight that Intel's development problems have caused the company to dispense with the H310 chipset, the simplest in the company, for very cheap motherboards. Supposedly, discontinuing this chipset would be motivated by the introduction of the Z390. It is true that AMD on the subject of motherboards and chipsets, have played much better than its rival.
