The AMD Radeon RX 6400 could no longer be exclusive to OEMs

Today, an AMD Radeon RX 6400 graphics card model, previously exclusive to OEMs and unavailable to the public, has appeared in online store listings. Twitter user momomo_us highlighted the cards being sold by a Chinese retailer and an unspecified retailer in Argentina.

Said user has published a screenshot with a listing of the RX 6400 from China, via MyDrivers. Next to the card you can see the specifications listed that match those detailed by AMD on January 5, 2022. This card has a single slot low profile blower style design, with a TDP of 53W.

The RX 6400 will be available, but would anyone want it?

Its price is 1.499 Chinese yuan (214 euros at the current exchange rate), which is significantly higher than the expected price of 1.000 yuan . The AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT , a slightly higher-end card and quite good for 1080p gaming, is priced close to 1.000 yuan before tax in some regions.

The listing from the unknown Argentinian retailer shows a familiar MSI Aero ITX design that is short in length but has a double-slot thickness. All the store's details identify it as the MSI Radeon RX 6400 Aero ITX 4G model . However, the description refers to the RX 560 model, suggesting there may be some errors or that we are awaiting further details from the supplier.

The Argentine retailer appears to have 69 of these cards in stock. They are selling them for 53.240 Argentine pesos. That's about 434 euros, and the higher price is explained by the fact that technology in many Latin American countries is expensive due to taxes applied to stimulate the local economy.

Regarding the performance of the AMD Radeon RX 6400, all indications are that it will be 30% slower than the RX 6500 XT . MyDrivers says it will be slightly slower than the GTX 1650. At launch, the RX 6500 XT was shown to easily outperform the GTX 1650 in modern titles. This would make the RX 6400 considerably slower than a graphics card that meets the minimum requirements for modern games. It will be difficult for this product to gain widespread acceptance outside the market of users with very outdated products who want to upgrade their graphics cards but cannot afford higher-end models. This market exists and will generate revenue, but it will hardly be a game-changer.
