NVIDIA Titan RTX wrecks NVIDIA Titan V at 3DMark Port Royal for RayTracing

Comparative Benchmark of NVIDIA Titan V and NVIDIA Titan RTX under 3DMark Port Royal shows how RT Cores greatly influence RayTracing.

During CES 2019 NVIDIA has presented the RTX 2060, the last of its Turing graphics with support for RayTracing. Another that has support for RayTracing is the Titan V based on the Volta architecture. This graphic offers support for DirectX RayTracing (DXR) and was used for the Star Wars demo. Then this demo has been run with the RTX. NVIDIA has recently launched the Titan RTX, which improves on the Titan V in that it has specific RT Cores for RayTracing, while the Titan V does not.

NVIDIA Titan V -vs- NVIDIA Titan RTX

A comparison has been published between the two most beastly NVIDIA graphics cards under the 3DMark Port Roya software. This new benchmark software is characterized by being the first for RayTracing. The results have been published on the OC3D forums by user Kaapstad.

This user has tested the Titan V and Titan RTX under the 3DMark Port Royal in combination with the Intel Core i7 6950X. The idea of the test was to see clearly if the RT Core cores have a direct impact on performance. Boy they have it because the Titan RTX practically triples the performance of the Titan V.

Specifically, the Titan V marks a score of 3725 points, while the Titan RTX marks a total of 9526 points. This represents a performance increase of just over 2.5X. Note that the Titan V was overclocked, to improve performance, so the difference could be noticeably greater. The output of the Volta-based Titan is very similar to the RTX 2060, which is ten times cheaper. No doubt the RT Core greatly influence the performance under RayTracing.
