Intel Core Raptor Lake launch could be brought forward to this summer

Normally, Intel takes almost a year to release a new generation of Intel Core. It is known that this year, possibly at the end, Raptor Lake would be launched, an evolution of the Intel Core Alder Lake that we began to see a few months ago, at the end of 2021, and now it seems that they could have advanced their departure a few months.

Intel has reportedly moved up the launch of its 13th generation Raptor Lake-S Core processors to sometime in the third quarter of 2022. This would mean that at least the Raptor Lake S models would arrive sometime this summer in OEM computers with these CPUs.

According to a report by Moore's Law is Dead, the launch was initially expected in the fourth quarter, similar to Intel's Alder Lake release in 2021. However, the report now predicts that Raptor Lake for the desktop segment will arrive in the third quarter of 2022, which runs from July to September.

In the case of mobile laptop models, they are now expected to launch towards the end of the year , in the fourth quarter. The Core “Raptor Lake-S” processor is built on the current LGA1700 socket and is being designed to be compatible with current motherboards using Intel's 600 series chipsets via a firmware update. Thus, products currently compatible with Alder Lake would also be compatible with Raptor Lake.

The Raptor Lake-S silicon is built on the current Intel Node 7 (10nm Enhanced SuperFin) and physically features eight performance cores and sixteen efficiency cores spread across four clusters. It also boasts additional cache memory compared to Alder Lake. Raptor Cove, the new generation of performance cores, could increase IPC by 8 to 15 percent compared to the Golden Cove core found in Alder Lake. All of this could result in overall multithreaded performance that is 30 to 40 percent higher than that of Alder Lake-S.
