SSDs will drop in price by 10% in the first quarter of 2019

It is expected that during the first quarter of 2019 the price of SSD drives will fall by at least 10% due to the excess supply of these drives.

This year solid state storage drives or SSDs have dropped in price significantly. The importance of these units is high, since it is the main bottleneck of a system. An SSD improves on read and write speeds over a conventional HDD. The price of SSDs is expected to continue to decline, declining further in Q2019 XNUMX.

SSDs will drop in price by up to 10% in 2019.

Its price drop is due to the important advances with respect to the manufacture of NAND memories. More and more users are betting on these units. In spite of everything there is more supply than demand and this allows offering low prices. The adoption trend is expected to continue because of the improvements they offer, but prices will still be low.

Trendforce is a division of DRAMeXchange specialized in the study of storage units. They have highlighted that it is expected that during the first quarter of 2019 prices will fall by up to 10%. This regardless of the growing adoption of SSD drives in all market segments.

It should be noted that NAND memory manufacturers have slowed down the production of these memories. They wanted to balance the current excess supply and thus raise prices. This attempt at market manipulation will not have the expected success as there is a significant excess of units in the current market.

We will see how the price of SSD units will continue to fall. Many pre-configured equipment manufacturers tend to dodge these units because of the price. Now it will no longer be an excuse to implement these units that help improve system performance.

If we look at the market prices, the 120GB units are already around € 30, while the 240GB are for less than € 50. They are clearly laughable prices and with the arrival of QLC units in 2019 we will see capacities of 1TB or more for quite affordable prices.
