Apple confirmed days ago that they are developing a new Mac Pro, of which they did not give any details. A new leak has provided interesting information about what your processor would be. LeaksApplePro points to an official presentation in the coming months, probably at the WWDC in June; scheduled to be released in September.
The leak also includes an idea about the type of technical performance that the 2022 Mac Pro will offer. It would have two M1Ultra, which would leave you with a lot of graphics and processing power boosted by your UltraFusion system to daisy chain multiple processors and graphics processors.
Apple's next Mac Pro would be a beast of power
A tweet backs up this claim, showing an alleged internal image of a bridge that shows the combination of two M1 Ultra chips. The bridge is codenamed “DAISYXL", which is based on Apple's UltraFusion architecture. The integration of two M1 Ultras could equip the Mac Pro with 256 GB of RAM.
For his part, Mark Gurman has commented that Apple is working on a M1 Ultradual chip called Extreme which supposedly comes with 40 CPU cores along with 128 GPU cores. A less powerful model with 96 GPU cores is also said to be in the works.
The M1 Ultra was unveiled during Apple's Peek Performance event on March 8. They claimed that it is the most powerful chip in the world for a personal computer. Several tests claim that it can compete with other recent high-end CPUs, but at the graphic level it does not exceed the RTX 3090 GPU. But the fact of joining two M1 Ultra could indeed give it the necessary power to surpass the NVIDIA graphics.
But as the size of the M1 increases, the rumors of the M2 continue. A separate leak from LeaksApplePro mentioned a June launch of new MacBook Pro 13s with said M2 chip. A MacBook Air M2 would follow in September or October. But all this about the M2 chip is rumours, and Apple most likely wants to focus on getting the most out of a known architecture, the M1, before going in and renewing its entire range of products with the M2. It is a question of waiting to see how many versions they can release before they have to opt for a new architecture in their product range, which is quite broad and requires several staggered releases over several years.
